Had a fun compo in the local GW - paint a mini with only the 5 colours your draw blind from a bag. As I haven't been painting as much as I liked, it seemed like a good idea to get some focus... admittedly, I did get fairly lucky with the draw, a brown, green, purple, pinky-purple and a "dry" light green.

Great idea and it shows you don't need a bucketful of paints to enjoy the hobby. Probably not a great marketing move by GW though but at least you had fun, got your mojo back and the end result is very respectable :)

Been a while since I posted in here...but, here was my entry for my local GW's birthday party, "duel" theme, complete with gimmicky stage lighting, although I must say breaking out the soldering iron for the first time in years to make the random "stage" lighting was almost as much fun as the painting itself!

    WP_20160504_001.jpg

And from the top, stage lights in all their glory...

Best bit is it doubles up as a bit of gaming scenery and littl'un loves it as a night light too!!!

Great idea and looks cool! I'm seeing more electronics making their way into diorama's these days. I best brush up on my wiring skills to keep up!

Here's the finished "death from above" complete with soft focus distance objects.... :tired

I'll take some others when it comes back from voting in the shop.

Edit: The death from above thingy is a fixture in the local GW :)

Going to call the SlaughterPriest finished.... Just added some cheery flowers to contrast the perceived carnage :)

As always, excuse the photo quality.... Tough enough getting dining table converted to modelling bench, let alone photo studio!

My GD finalist was the slaughterpriest above.....touched up a couple of areas I wasn't happy with.

Was a positive experience and there were some good hints, tips and discussions.

The Alpha Legion saw there first action as a completely painted army.... they mastered an uprising on Shrine World Boralis IV at Warhammer world, which saw a huge number of cultists swarm to repatriate the shrine at the end of the main street, removing the last bastions of Imperial resistance.

    20170527_103723-756x1008.jpg

Game was really good fun....although I was pretty golden on some of my rolls, like regen-ing cultist squads, or nicking the game with the last 4 dice rolls as I managed to grab the shrine at the death :)

Funniest moment was blowing up a knight and effectively killing my largest squad of 30 cultists, and their back up 20!!!

I'll have to get a better one of the other two entries... but here's the three together!

The duel was fun but a rush...think it was about 8hours start to finish as RL & work got in the way lol!!!

Feedback on the purple marine was the white tribune skirt let it down, which is a fair cop as I've not really pained white other than eyes
    before :)

Ah, white... always a tricky one. That purple looks fantastic though, smooth and not too vivid!

Good stuff, I reckon you earned that pin :D

Yeah, white is a bit of a bastard. The key is to use white itself very sparingly so you can use it to hit the high spots and provide good definition. That way you can also subtly introduce colour into the shading without it looking too dirty.

Is that one of the new nurgle marines?

The heat sucks, doesn't it! I can't even bring myself to sculpt a lot of the time!

Could be a revolutionary invention... brushes that sweat to keep your paints moist :D

They do look nice, a few pieces in that box have got potential. Curse you GW! *shakes fist*
